ABOUT RETROBYT.ES
RetroByt.es is a project dedicated to preserving and revisiting the culture of personal computing, BBS networks, classic software, vintage hardware and the early connected world.
THE PROJECT
RetroByt.es exists to document and explore the systems, networks, and communities that shaped modern computing. It is not an emulation project. It is a preservation and study effort focused on real hardware, real software, and real experiences.
THE BBS
Node 1 runs IcyBoard v0.1.7 as the public bulletin board system. The BBS provides authenticated message areas, file sections, and door-game slots. Raw TCP is the currently validated access path. Telnet clients may have CRLF compatibility issues, and the browser-based Web Terminal is still under development.
THE ARCHIVE
The archive includes historical software, original documentation, preserved media, and source materials related to Brazilian computing history and vintage systems. Items are catalogued and linked from the main site and BBS menus.
THE LAB
The lab maintains test environments for classic operating systems, serial/UART setups, vintage terminal emulation, and hardware-accurate configurations. It is not a production environment; it is a working research bench.
WHY RETROBYT.ES
Because the early connected world had texture. It had SysOps, hand-edited message bases, file descriptions written by humans, and communities that knew each other by handle. RetroByt.es is an attempt to carry that model forward without nostalgia as the product.
